6 REASONS TO MONITOR YOUR BLOOD SUGAR: A RENEW Wellness Diabetes Testimony
A RENEW WELLNESS DIABETES TESTIMONY
I have had type 2 diabetes since 1995 and take an oral medication for it every day. My church recently started a RENEW Wellness Diabetes support group and I decided to go to the first meeting. I had never participated in anything like this before. When I learned that I have diabetes, the doctor told me I could manage my sugar by eating a low sugar and low carbohydrate diet. I seemed to do alright for several years but recently I have experienced several emergency situations with my sugar being too low or too high. I knew I needed to get some help but being an elderly indigent black male I guess I was too proud to ask for assistance.
At the first RENEW Wellness diabetes support group meeting we had a good Bible study first. The Bible study was on “The Temple of the Holy Spirit” and it raised my awareness that I need to take better care of my body. Then the leader passed around several up-to-date news articles about diabetes that were very informative. The leader began explaining things like glucose levels, using a glucometer, and something called A-1-C. Not only did I not know what a glucometer was, I had never measured my sugar levels. I did not know that I should.
The RENEW Wellness group leader put me in touch with a local doctor who specializes in diabetes and I went to see him. He put me on oral medication, made it possible for me to receive a glucometer, and registered me in a two-day class for diabetes.
I am happy to tell my fellow RENEW Wellness group members that I am monitoring my glucose three times a day, I am taking my medication, I am eating better, and I feel much better than I have in a long time. I am praising God for my RENEW Wellness diabetes support group at my church. I guess it helps by the fact that my pastor is the creator of the ministry and he leads our Bible study each session.

6 REASONS TO MONITOR YOUR GLUCOSE LEVELS
Thank you Arthur for that testimony for RENEW Wellness. Here are six benefits of monitoring your blood sugar:
- Be aware of your glucose levels
- Keeping a low glucose level will maintain lower A-1-C levels
- Controlling glucose levels may reduce complications
- Controlling glucose levels may help you monitor the effectiveness of medications
- May prevent glucose upward and downward spikes that contribute to glycemic emergencies
- May reduce silent damage to your heart, kidneys, eyes, and other organs
We are just getting started. RENEW Wellness ministry joins the wellness revolution that is sweeping America.
